Watershed Planning

Woodford, Peoria, and Tazewell Counties all share a tremendous natural resource, the Illinois River. Our section of the Illinois River, known as the Peoria Lakes, has been quickly filling with sediment from local tributaries and their watersheds. As our native habitats are converted to farmland and urbanized areas, stormwater that was once soaked up by native vegetation now runs off into our streams at alarming rates causing sheet, gully, and streambank erosion. TCRPC has been actively working with community members from various sub-watersheds throughout the tri-county area to develop plans unique to each community to address the issues of water quality and erosion.

Mossville Bluffs Watershed Plan

This watershed restoration plan is a study to uncover the primary factors that cause the Mossville Bluffs Watershed to contribute sediment to Peoria Lake , identify actions that may reduce sedimentation, and propose tools for preventing sedimentation in future development projects.

Oakbrook Ravine Restoration Concept Plan

In 2004, the Oakbrook Homeowners Association requested that the Natural
Resources and Your Development Taskforce create a ravine restoration concept
plan for the subdivision. Many homeowners were concerned about the erosion
occurring along the ravines and wished to stabilize the system. The Taskforce
created a comprehensive, watershed based mitigation plan that addresses
stormwater runoff from all properties within the subdivision including those not
directly connected to ravines.
