Illinois River Valley Council of Governments
Overview
The IRVCOG was established in May 2002. The Board of Directors is composed of 15 persons from Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford Counties – the 3 County Board Chairs, 3 Mayors from each county (which are appointed by the Heartland Mayors Association), and one Township Supervisor from each county.
The mission of the Illinois River Valley Council of Governments is:
1. Coordination of governmental services and planning
• Joint Purchasing Committee
• Terrorism response planning
2. Building effective working relationships among elected leaders
• Information Sharing and Education- 80,000# truck bill
• Legislative Agenda/meeting with legislators
3. Advocacy for the region
• Base Retention Effort
• Regional lobbyist potential
4. Development of a regional vision
• Regional Transit Plan
5. Regional problem solving
• Storm water committee
• Regional Wind Farm Ordinance
6. Development of partnerships among public and private entities
The Board meets monthly at the offices of Tri-County Regional Planning Commission. In addition to the monthly meetings of the Board of Directors, quarterly membership meetings are held. All elected officials in the tri-county area are invited to attend, and topics of regional interest are discussed.
